Despite the valiant efforts of our school administrators, our HIMS  “Phones Away For The Day” student cell phone policy is not doing enough to protect our kids at school.  Though improvements were seen over the 2022-2023 school year, administration is still finding that student safety and well-being continues to be significantly impacted by cell phone use at Hamilton International Middle School, as it is in schools nationally.

During the school day, our kids are vulnerable to these common egregious experiences:

  • Sexually charged Snapchat messages
  • Violent TikTok challenges
  • Privacy violations in the bathrooms
  • Kids taking ridiculously long bathroom breaks to use social media.

Administration has asked your HIMS PTSA for support in finding a real solution and for the sake of a positive & safe academic environment.  We all want a school where our students can thrive, find the best of themselves, and one another.  To that end the PTSA is proposing a program to lock down cell phones during the school day, and for the 2024-25 school year.  Please come to the PTSA General Meeting onWednesday, May 22 at 6:30pm to participate in this discussion.
